The Site Goes Live!
This is it – my professional website is finally coming online! Exciting times, indeed.
It’s been months in the process, and I have to say I’m really happy with the result. I spent hours upon hours trying to find the right look and feel, then even more hours trying to find the right theme or framework to support it. Then, the designing, redesigning, and re-redesigning (if that’s a thing), followed by testing with friends and family, and finally – at long last – publishing the whole mess.
Originally, I thought about writing a very simple one-page HTML5/CSS theme for WordPress similar to Kayla Knight’s (she does beautiful work, BTW), but I just didn’t have the bandwidth. I then entertained building something using the Genesis framework, but again, bandwidth. I’ve used Divi for a few clients recently and I have to say, it’s pretty dang good. Simple but powerful, and once it’s set up, most folks find it pretty easy to keep updated. So in the end, I built a child theme just for my site based on Divi from Elegant Themes.
After that, it was a matter of taking all the ideas for a logo and basic color palette and figuring out how I was going to implement it. That’s the only problem with Divi, in my opinion – you can do SO MUCH with it, it’s hard to know where to start if you don’t have a clear plan.
Now, all that’s left is to spend a few hours here and there building links to a few guest posts I’ve written elsewhere, fleshing out a few more projects for my portfolio, and announcing this whole thing to my followers on social media.
Please, look around, explore, try to break stuff… the usual. Oh, and if you do break anything, kudos (and please let me know so I can fix it).
